Version 2 of SP Debugger for SQR
has been available for some time as a trial download and a number of customers have been
using it as well. Now a message announcing it will start appearing at the bottom of the configuration
panel. I'd like to encourage all current customers to switch. Although version 1
is still supported, version 2 offers many advantages, including:
• Local database variables (&vars) now available for inspection
• Faster parse times, reducing time spent in the "loading" step
• Smaller footprint, with the debugger generating less overhead code; this will allow
you to debug certain programs that were previously too large
• More complete syntax highlighting—configurable
• Character values up to SQR's maximum string size supported
• Higher capacity for variable watches, with less overhead
• SQR return codes are reported when the program ends
• Include levels are highlighted
• LOCAL procedure code is highlighted
• The debugger automatically sets the maximum limits for certain parameters,
such as PROGLINEPARMS
• The debugger catches unhandled runtime SQL errors and keeps the program
running so that you can inspect variables
• Autostepping speed can be changed
• A new Setup Wizard helps with initial configuration
• The Profiler displays results every few seconds; no need to pause the program
to see results
• Expanded "Find" dialog
• "Save code as..." will save the code in a form that can be run directly under SQR
• The generated SQR command line can be viewed
• Recent configuration files are listed
• New "edit" button for each file on config panel and "open" button for each folder
• When a program is run under the debugger and the user selects the option to
view output after the run, the debugger will use Adobe Reader or a browser
instead of the SQR viewer if possible
• Optionally saves separate log files by program name
The upgrade is simple. Log in to your account using the Customer Login section on the left side of
the home page. This may be the last time you'll need to do this, as that page will be obsolete
as soon as you upgrade. (Future updates to the program will be handled differently and will
no longer require you to log in to that page.) If you have forgotten your site ID or
password, please contact me. And please report any issues you may encounter.Update: The old account pages
now are obsolete. If you do not have your version 2 license key, contact me.
